Swollen Feats and Spironolactone

This is a funny one. Not the swollen feet but the MIX-UP
But it gives you pause as to getting ahead of one’s self.

This is a funny one. Not the Swollen feet but the MIX-UP

But it gives you pause as to getting ahead of one’s self.

Last night my left hand had spasms almost the entire movie. I am going to see Doc this week. I can not continue with this. Their has to be something else for edema in my ankles.

Cramps from HELL are not only the worst, but quite distinctive

(Take one AM and PM 25 mg)

I never took two doses, one has been enough thank you.

How can one pill have so many side effects and do one good thing and that is the appearance of skinny feet ?

Do I go back on and go through the pain of spasms that sometimes actually make me scream in pain or do I put up with swollen ankles.

I guess as long as I can still walk I have answered my own question.

My Blood pressure remains unchanged, if not better while off the pill.

Prescribed Valium 5 mg to ease the pain of the muscle spasms. I seldom take them as 3 times a day I would never get out of bed.

So, I don’t know if that works or not.

For two weeks off not one cramp or spasm.

  • (see more after the not so funny part)

Been on this drug since they took me off Losartan May 1 2015 first fill. Before Losartan it was what Dr.Atilla had me on  after switching me from  Lopressor that the hospital prescribed in 2009 for HBP which I do not have.

It was  caused by over the counter cold meds.

I made them leftover food from my dinner of meatloaf last night.

I started looking for my new script for Valium as I had given her 5 out of the old bottle.

OK, getting ahead again. I did not take anything today.

I told myself last night watching the movie, swollen feet over spasms any day.

So, back to where I left off.

I brought the Spironolactone script in my bedroom to call the pharmacy. I asked if it was the same manufacture. They said Yes and I said I knew he wasn’t a doctor but described my issues and what it was prescribed for. He said to see my Doctor about a different kind of pill for edema since all the side effects I was having went away or stayed the same as in Blood Pressure.  Keeping a record for 14 days showed it was great without the spironolactone.

So I did not have spasms, headaches, peeing every hour, having to wear Poise again, no sound sleep, dizzy and fussy, fuzzy.

The only thing I did have was the swollen ankles that looked like balloons. Even my slip on Crocs didn’t fit..

Now, you would think they would want to know the cause and then treat accordingly.

I looked up on top of the fridge and said there it is, never opened. Than I thought as dazed and forgettable as I have been  of late;  was I taking Valium thinking it was spironolactone ?

They had been side by side on top of the fridge.

They said I was so mellow.

I told her I was always mellow.

Since I gave more consideration to it I realize since I went off the spironolactone today. The bottle was in here and the Valium was on top of the fridge.

I in fact did not mix them up.

I know this now because I have taken no pills whatsoever today.

I had told myself years ago I would not have an array of scripts that I might mix up at some time or other.

If that were the case I would not be up every hour on the hour at night-time and I would NOT want to sleep during the day.

I just want my all night sleep back that I had for two weeks while off the Spironolactone.

No spasms

No fussy,fuzzy,dizziness

No brain fog

and of course No swollen feet’s.

Went back off Monday the 19th after having a hand spasm the night before for almost two hours.

Nothing worked, cell salts, lots of water and the horrid pickle juice. That was when I said swollen feet be damn.

I am not taking that spironolactone anymore.

Doc appointment Thursday.

oh and I NEVER had low Blood Platelets until I started on the meds.

As of this post my last tests in June at Miami Liver (Hepatology) Center showed that no Hep-C virus was detected, or it was such a low number it couldn’t be classified. This was awesome news. I have not been treated with any new FDA approved drugs. I refuse to be a guinea pig in scientific studies and research. I do not vaccinate my cats nor myself. IMHO No to vaccinations.

I still have the occasional glass of wine. My whiskey daze are done and done.

Alternative’s that help:

An old remedy that helps clear the liver and kidneys of toxins.  Bragg’s Apple Cider Vinegar. (Mother is on the label)  I take one tablespoon daily with a bit of honey in  a glass of warm water.  It truly seems like a miracle, that little tablespoon of Bragg’s.

Cut back on sugar. I am a sweet tea junkie and this has been a hard one.

Use less salt and more fresh herbs for seasoning your food.

Watch the Red meat and any and all processed foods. Eat at home more and dine out less.

If you smoke try to quit or at least cut back. This is still my one and only vice.

Drink Coffee.

Smoke more THC

Hepatitis C does not define who you are.  Hepatitis C lives with you. Albeit as a unwelcome roommate.

2015 New Treatments are here now and on the horizon.

Please get tested and change your lifestyle habits if you want to survive this.

I was first told that I needed to get the Hep C panel of tests in June of 98. I had very suddenly became very ill. I felt as if I were in a daze. Coma is a better way to describe it. I could not move my body and everything was in such slow-moving motion. My eyes felt like they were opening and closing so slowly and my speech seemed very slow and distant. It felt like the worse chilled to the bone flu I have ever experienced. I could not get warm, I felt cold and clammy. All of my lymph nodes were swollen and so painful, everywhere.
My groin, armpits, buttocks.

I had a long history of abusing drugs and alcohol.  A few tattoos along the way.

The Phoenix is the confident, courageous, positive transformer that transcends personal ego.

I died many small deaths during my addiction. I pulled up out of the deep dark cesspools and survived.

That moment when I realized I was indeed THE Phoenix.

My first visit to the doctors, I informed them that since I did not have insurance I could not afford the tests that were recommended. My original blood tests showed my liver enzymes were way off base. They urged me to cut back on the drinking. I had already cold turkey removed myself from narcotics. I had used from the early 70’s to the early 90’s. Giving up drinking was something I just wasn’t ready to do.

I worked as a server and drinking after work was a given. Sometimes I had to drink a lot to relieve the pain I felt deep in my bones. I didn’t realize the fire in my liver was already beginning its slow burn.

Too make this story a bit more to the point I will get to the basics.

The sickness took a full swing south shortly after a major Hurricane (Hurricane George 1998). Conditions without electricity and not being able to bathe properly caused a severe outbreak of a viral nature. It was so bad I was hospitalized for 4 days. This was in November 98. I had started feeling ill with swollen glands in the groin area back in June of 98.

I was at work and it felt like a freight train had hit me, backed up and came at me again. I was so tired I could barely function. I had started a computer class that I could not finish. I was like a zombie.

After being released from the hospital I did get the needed tests and yes I did have Hep C. Now at least I had a clue as to why I felt the way I did. I researched and read books and most important of all, I gave up drinking completely in July 99.  I thought, Oh I can have a drink every now and then, but no sooner than I succumbed I was back in the fire again.

This disease is so coy. You can have it for years and then something in your immune system goes awry and it rears up like a fire that someone has thrown gasoline on.

That is what drinking does to a person with Hep C, it fuels the flames. It’s strange in retrospect but I drank to relieve the pain of my degenerative bone malady better known as Fibromyalgia. Now, the pain is worse than ever because I can’t even think of having a drink or taking a simple Motrin for pain.

Everything I eat or drink affects my liver. I will always have this, but I can control it somewhat.

My Take on Generics

The choice is mine.

I choose to LIVE as well as I possibly can and as long as God/Goddess allows.

Be Aware and Informed on Generics

You are on your own with Generics.

All month I have taken a keen interest in the logistics of generic drugs. I am weaning myself off them which I have been forewarned is a major No-No.

This was instigated from the realization that my latest script for Cozaar  Losartan caused side effects as if I were just starting a new drug. My research uncovered amazing stories of persons with the same concerns.

Generic drug companies change. The main ingredient in the drug supposedly does not, but the fillers, size, color can and most likely will.

A bit of my health history.
In 2009 I passed out while working at Home Depot. I had taken a barrage of cold medicines so I could work. Two days later I am hospitalized with BP of 231/128. I am immediately put on Lopressor which made me almost immediately gain 20 pounds and had other annoying side effects. A year later I had severe muscle cramps and nerve damage in my hands and feet. I was always dizzy and was NOT spinning right round so too speak.

I am feeling so rested. Actually I slept better than I have in years. Last night I noticed my mouth wasn’t dry as cotton. My legs and arms did not HURT so badly. My stomach ache is gone and regular elimination is back.

Symptoms and side effects of what I now know to have been from Losartan Blood Pressure meds. 50 mg once a day with a baby aspirin 81 mg to top it off. Every day for the past 6 years.

My BP is fine so far actually the numbers are looking even better.

I was diagnosed with Hepatitis C in 1998.
I no longer drink.
I am a smoker of less than a pack a day.
Leg ablation were done on both legs due to a malady called leaky vessels. My ankles and feet were swollen everyday for years. I could barely walk.

My days and nights collided.

My social life plummeted.

Since 2009 all these sides have at one time or all the time invaded my world.
Each time I voiced my concerns I was prescribed something else that in effect severely clashed with Losartan.

All vitamins and Doctor prescribed scripts are in a drawer hidden away.

Still had spasms

Like I was drugged on a overdose of heroin. Very slow moving, dizzy, weak, very tired somaication, Incoherent, off balance, heart palpitations.

Lowered blood pressure, both feet spasms. Dry mouth, like it was stuffed with cotton.

Using Fluconazole together with Tizanidine can increase the risk of an irregular heart rhythm that may be serious.

Slept all the time. After a week couldn’t sleep. Up all hours. Feet swelling and 20 pound weight gain in just a month.

Prescription Potassium Extended Release

The above supplements can cause high levels of potassium in your blood. High levels of potassium can cause weakness, irregular heartbeat, confusion, tingling of the extremities, or feelings of heaviness in the legs.

Prescribed for urine leakage and urgency (Bladder)
One week later suffered from  severe urinary tract infection.

Generic (Wellbutrin) Budeprion XL 300

For state of mind and smoking cessation
Weird and psychotic feelings

After regime with Losartan I experienced:

Dry mouth

Tickly throat and annoying cough

Stuffed, dry  nasal passages

Shortness of breath

Off Balance

(Meaning~sleepy, drowsy. Tending to cause sleep.
A condition of semi consciousness approaching coma. In a condition of incomplete sleep; semi comatose

Numbness and tingling in hands and feet

Cold sensations in legs especially left foot and area above left knee

Terrible cramping and spasms in left hand and both feet felt like little broken bones.
Could not put weight on either.

Tired all the time

Swelling of calves, ankles and feet

No energy

Weight gain

Impaired urination

Bladder infections

Retention of urine

Feelings of doom and depression

I never considered it could have been caused in effect by a prescribed drug by a doctor I trusted.

Today I am in charge folks. I want quality in my life not so many side effects from generics that do more harm than good.

I am 66 years old.

I am 5′ 6 in. I have lost 25 pounds. I eat nutritious foods
No soda’s
Aware of hidden sugars
Limit all sweets

Read the book “Selling Sickness”.

Most importantly please remember that Generic drug companies are exempt from being sued for serious reactions and sometimes death.

“Patients will now be taking generic drugs at their own risk,” said American Association for Justice President Gibson Vance. “It is absurd that doctors and patients will have to make medical decisions knowing that only brand-name drug manufacturers – not generics – can be held accountable for their drugs’ dangerous side-effects.”
